What is OPSA?

Orangeburg Presbyterian Student Association (OPSA) is a Christian student association that offers all students at Claflin and South Carolina State Universities :

  • An environment in which they can grow spiritually and make connections between faith and real life.
  • An open exchange of ideas in which students support one another through prayer groups, Bible studies, group discussions, worship, meals, fellowship activities (ice cream socials, coffeehouses, movie nights, retreats, football games, etc.).
  • Community Service (Mission Outreach) opportunities such as: preparing and delivering meals to needy individuals and Habitat for Humanity workers; shopping for disadvantaged children; mentoring at elementary and middle schools; yard work for the elderly, shut in, disabled, widowed, etc.

Our program is connected with the Presbyterian Church ( USA ), but we fellowship and work together with other denominational campus ministry groups.

OPSA's weekly meetings are held at 7:15pm on Mondays in the Garnet & Blue Room at SC State.

Supporting One Another

Interested students will be assigned a prayer partner each semester, and they are free to determine how they will arrange this time of support for each other.

Fellowship

OPSA offers regular fellowship events such as coffeehouses, ice cream socials, sleepovers, and movie/game nights to allow students to take time off from study and to enjoy one another's company.

Community Service

OPSA is involved in meaningful and needed service projects such administering to nursing home residents and housing projects.

Advent Services

During the academic year a special contemporary worship service and fellowship supper with the Wesley Foundation (Methodist) and the Newman (Catholic) Campus Ministry Association is held. Come and worship and celebrate these special seasons of the year.

Retreats

An excellent opportunity to meet and interact with students from college across the state at the Statewide Retreats held at Myrtle Beach and other fun locations. Enjoy the music, the speakers, the games, dance and small group discussions.
