Leadership Development Ministry Unit

of

Charleston Atlantic Presbytery

The Leadership Development Ministry Unit has primary responsibility for preparation, training, and education of local church leadership. The unit plans an annual event which provides for the development of skills and enrichment for church officers and other congregational leaders. In addition, the unit sponsors occasional special training events and assistance to individual churches and leaders in local congregations.

The Leadership Development Ministry Unit is composed of three committees: the STEPS Committee, the Resource Center Committee, and the Presbyterian Youth Connection Leadership Committee.

The STEPS (Studying, Teaching, Equipping, Praying, Serving) Committee plans and implements the annual training and education event for lay and ordained leaders, teachers, and all others in our churches who are interested in becoming more actively engaged in knowing and serving God. This two-day event offers many opportunities for worship, fellowship, and study, through workshops, worship services, keynote sessions, and meals together.

The Resource Center Committee provides year round support through personnel and material resources available to all churches in the Presbytery. Our resource center is equipped with books, magazines, videotapes, and many other tools for use in the local church or for personal use. The center also houses equipment including an LCD projector, helium tanks, an overhead projector, slide projector, and a parachute. This equipment is available for use by request.

The Presbyterian Youth Connection Leadership Committee plans and implements events that provide training for youth and adult leaders in Youth Ministry.

Outside of the committee structure the Leadership Development Ministry Unit also:

  • Provides support to Christian Educators

  • Offers scholarship assistance for the CE Conference at Montreat

  • Offers scholarship assistance for other Montreat conferences, General Assembly sponsored leadership training, Regional APCE and other PC(USA) leader development events

  • Offers financial assistance to strengthen education, worship and nurture in the local church

  • Offers financial assistance for special education events for pastors, educators, and congregational leaders

The Leadership Development Ministry Unit is strengthened by the support of Sue Mathews, Associate for Resourcing and Communication and Pie Mikell, Associate for Congregational Nurture.
