Mission Statement

The mission of First Presbyterian Church is to be a team accomplishing our vision of changing lives and making disciples. We work together on God's team. As Presbyterians, we accept that we may travel different paths to achieve God's purpose. We are united in our love of God and each other and in our desire to serve God as taught by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the 1950s, Fred C. and Billie Hack arranged for clergy to hold worship services in a little white chapel at Honey Horn Plantation.  As the meetings grew, the Charleston Presbytery became interested in the budding congregation and made arrangements for a student minister to serve them during the spring and summer of 1957.  It soon became evident that a more structured church program was needed.  In November of 1957, the Charleston Presbytery formally established the First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island with seventeen charter members.

First Presbyterian Church has evolved through a multitude of transformations over the past 46 years.  In 1965, the congregation began the first of many building projects resulting in the church’s current facilities located on several acres mid-island on Highway 278.  Building upon the strong foundation laid by the 17 charter members, First Presbyterian Church has become a vibrant congregation on Hilton Head Island with its members working together to glorify God through worship, education and service.  The congregation and staff of First Presbyterian Church continue to pursue a dynamic agenda reaching into the community with programs to attract participants of all ages, as well as to provide Christian help in all parts of the world.
